Caramelo
Caramelo traces its origins to 1969 in A Coruña, where José Antonio Caramelo and Luis Gestal began by manufacturing waterproof outerwear. The Caramelo brand itself was created in 1984, first with a menswear collection and later with womenswear. After José Antonio Caramelo’s death, Francisco Javier Cañás Caramelo became manager of the textile company. Caramelo expanded internationally from 2003 and acquired Antonio Pernas in 2005, an acquisition that increased its debt. The brand entered liquidation in 2016, and its last A Coruña store closed in 2017. Following the liquidation-sale process, Transfleet Europa bought the brand in 2019 and transferred it to Kangaroos through Gar Sport in 2020. During the relaunch documented in 2021, De Ruy controlled Caramelo’s cosmetics and perfumes, including a new perfume collection presented as an extension of the fashion brand’s urban and elegant style.
