Carlos Santana

Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Jalisco, Mexico. The Carlos Santana identity grew from the Santana music project, an Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit that developed in San Francisco during the 1960s and emerged globally at Woodstock in 1969 alongside its self-titled debut album. Its musical identity is anchored in Santana’s recognizable guitar sound and the fusion of Latin, blues, and rock traditions. The 1970 album Abraxas reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and included “Oye Como Va” and “Black Magic Woman.” Santana entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and the group’s first two albums are recognized as GRAMMY Hall of Fame works. In 1999, Supernatural marked a major artistic reinvention, winning nine GRAMMY Awards, including Album of the Year, while “Smooth” won Record of the Year. Beyond music, River of Colors, founded in 1997, developed the Carlos by Carlos Santana and Unity by Carlos Santana names and products. The fragrance extension launched in 2005 with Victory International, including Carlos Santana for Women, described at the time as his debut women’s fragrance. Related marks are held by Santana Tesoro, LLC.
