Carlotha Ray
Carlotha Ray was founded in 2019 by Paraguayan-born, French-adopted designer Mariela Schwarz Montiel, who named the brand for her grandmother, Carlotha Despierre de Montiel, a supporter of girls’ education in Paraguay and reforestation. The label began as an ethically oriented luxury footwear project responding to the environmental impact of disposable plastic flip-flops, using natural latex and plant-derived pigments. In 2021, it launched its first fragrance collection, extending its work from footwear into French haute perfumery, with Jean-Michel Duriez as creative perfumer for the line. Its fragrance identity is organized around a recurring Cuir de fleur accord of maté, oakmoss, vegetal leather and osmanthus; Cuir de Fleur is identified as the fullest expression of that accord, while Poire & Santal Blanc received the Produit espoir award in the 2022 Madame Figaro Beauté Stars awards. The house is now condensed under the name CRay, and Nicolas Chabot took over the Carlotha Ray house in 2026. Its current legal page identifies Æther Parfum as owner of the Carlotha Ray and CRay trademarks, while the current range comprises seven unisex fragrances using one signature accord across the compositions.
