Carol's Daughter
Carol’s Daughter began in 1993, when Lisa Price made hair and body products by hand in her Brooklyn kitchen and sold them at local flea markets and festivals. Named for Price’s mother, Carol, the brand’s early identity drew on family beauty traditions, handmade formulations, and hair and body care. It later developed a particular focus on textured hair, centering waves, curls, and coils. Price’s 2002 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show marked a major public milestone, followed by expansion into national consumer channels. On October 20, 2014, L’Oréal USA announced a definitive agreement to acquire the brand, describing it as an American multicultural beauty brand with a pioneering heritage in natural beauty. A 2025 ownership change was presented as a return to founder-led stewardship, alongside emphasis on the brand’s Brooklyn origins, textured-hair expertise, heritage, self-expression, and community. In fragrance, My Life by Mary J. Blige, launched in July 2010 as Carol’s Daughter’s first celebrity fragrance collaboration, sold more than 100,000 units that year and received two 2011 FiFi Awards.
