Carroll Shelby

Carroll Shelby created Shelby American in California in 1962 to build the Cobra, establishing a name rooted in high-performance automobiles and racing. The brand’s racing history reached a major milestone in 1965, when the Cobra Daytona Coupe helped Shelby American win the World Manufacturers’ GT Championship. Its Ford association produced the Shelby Mustang GT350 in 1965 and the GT500 in 1967, shaping its performance identity. Shelby later extended beyond automobiles through licensed products; in 1986, Shelby’s Texas Chili Mix was sold to Kraft, Inc. Carroll Shelby transferred his intellectual-property rights to the Carroll Hall Shelby Trust in 1997, and in 2003 Ginseng Forest acquired Carroll Shelby Licensing and Shelby Automobiles before taking the name Carroll Shelby International. That company became the holding company for Shelby American and Shelby Licensing, while the Trust retained a majority-shareholder position after Shelby’s death. The current Carroll Shelby fragrance, Carroll Shelby Red, is a licensed product using trademarks from Carroll Shelby Licensing.
