Castle Forbes
Castle Forbes was founded in 1996 by Jinny, Lady Forbes, and Andrew French at a small family perfumery in a former dairy building on the Castle Forbes estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It began with women’s and men’s fragrances, then broadened into toiletries, bath products, candles, and gift items before concentrating on men’s fragrances and shaving. Demand in the United States materially shaped that direction: after five years of development, the brand created an essential-oil-based shaving range and launched it through Fortnum & Mason in London. Its identity combines Scottish estate provenance, traditional British grooming, and timeless scents, with Andrew French as perfume and product creator. Jointly owned by the Forbes and French families, Castle Forbes is particularly associated with 1445, a fougère fragrance named for the year associated with the Forbes family’s elevation to the Scottish lordship.
