Catherine Malandrino

Catherine Malandrino launched her own label in New York in 1998 after moving from Paris. Trained at ESMOD and shaped by work with Louis Féraud and Emanuel Ungaro, her Parisian couture background became part of the brand’s design foundation, alongside an identity that combined Parisian refinement with New York’s urban energy and cultural mix. The first Catherine Malandrino collection, Collages, appeared that year and drew attention from the press and Bergdorf Goodman, which displayed it during New York Fashion Week. Around 2000–2001, the Flag collection, built around American-flag imagery, became a major breakthrough in the brand’s public identity; designs from it were worn by Madonna, Halle Berry, Meryl Streep, and other public figures. On August 26, 2013, Bluestar Alliance acquired the brand’s intellectual-property assets from Tahari ASL. In 2019, B. Riley Financial announced majority ownership of assets and intellectual property related to licenses of six brands, including Catherine Malandrino, while intending to develop the holdings with Bluestar Alliance.
