Celine

Celine was founded in Paris in 1945 by Céline Vipiana as a made-to-measure children’s shoe workshop. During the 1960s, it expanded into women’s ready-to-wear and added accessories and leather goods, then launched a sportswear line in 1968. Vipiana conceived the Triomphe monogram in the 1970s, and it became one of the house’s enduring visual signatures. LVMH acquired Celine in 1996. On 21 January 2018, Hedi Slimane was appointed artistic, creative and image director, with responsibility across women’s and men’s fashion, couture, leather goods, accessories and fragrances. In 2019, Celine returned to fragrance with the unisex Haute Parfumerie collection, its first perfume launch since Vent Fou in 1964. The collection is shaped by a Parisian and French olfactory identity, Slimane’s personal olfactory journal and a recurring powdery imprint, without traditional masculine-feminine separation. Slimane’s departure was announced on 2 October 2024, and Michael Rider was named his successor, taking effect in early 2025; Rider presented his first Celine collection in July 2025.
