Ceremonia

Ceremonia was founded in 2020 by Babba Rivera after she struggled to find clean, sustainable products for her damaged natural hair. The brand grew from family hair rituals: Rivera’s father was a hairdresser in Chile, she grew up in Sweden, and she later based the company in New York. Named after the Spanish word for “ceremony,” Ceremonia reflects the Latinx traditions, rituals, and self-care practices that influenced Rivera’s upbringing, while its original approach paired clean, performance-oriented hair care with wellness. It launched in October 2020 with Aceite de Moska, a scalp oil inspired by a Dominican Republic hair-care treatment. Its cultural identity centers on celebrating Latin heritage and addressing the lack of representation Rivera experienced in beauty and mainstream media. In 2023, Ceremonia launched its first perfume, Perfume de la Tierra, extending the signature scent used across its hair products into a standalone fragrance. Presented as a clean fragrance rooted in culture and soil, it has a warm, woody, citrusy profile, with visual direction drawn from Mexican Modernism and rural Mexican ranches and haciendas.
