Chasing Scents

Chasing Scents is an Australian perfume house founded in 2021 by Sandy Wong and her partner, with tea as its central fragrance subject. Born in Sydney, Wong developed an early interest in perfume through her Hong Kong-born mother’s collection and began experimenting during a PhD in Chemistry. The brand’s creative identity draws on conversations, bonding, and tea rituals, bringing cultural roots into contemporary fragrance composition. It develops formulas in-house and works with self-extracted tea and whole-flower materials made through tincture and Soxhlet processes, alongside natural extracts, aroma compounds, and resins. Tea Service, among its first fragrances, was released in 2021 and is tied to Wong’s memory of missing yum-cha during COVID-19 lockdowns. Rain Tea was released on 1 March 2023, using in-house chrysanthemum and chamomile extracts and wattle in its Australian cultural concept; Cosmopolitan included it in a 2024 perfume-trend selection. Later development connected perfume with particular tea memories and places, including Private Teahouse and Bitter Melon Lemon Tea, inspired by an iced fruit-tea drink encountered in Guangzhou and scheduled for release on 1 July 2025.
