Chaumet

Founded in Paris in 1780 by Marie-Étienne Nitot, Chaumet’s workshop later took the maison’s name. After creating Napoleon’s coronation sword and a papal tiara, Nitot became jeweller to the Imperial court and personal jeweller to Empress Joséphine, who remains the maison’s principal historical muse. Chaumet moved to Place Vendôme in 1812—the first business to establish itself there—and relocated to 12 Place Vendôme in 1907. Following the fall of the Empire, the Fossin and Morel families expanded the maison’s romantic and nature-based design vocabulary. Joseph Chaumet helped make aigrettes and tiaras a specialty during the Belle Époque, while the interwar maison adapted to Art Deco through geometric forms and platinum. In 1987, Investcorp took over after financial difficulties involving the heirs. Chaumet introduced the Liens collection in 1977, followed by Joséphine in 2010 and Bee de Chaumet in 2011. From 2017 to 2019, heritage exhibitions in Beijing, Tokyo and Monaco each presented more than 300 jewellery pieces and artworks.
