Cher
Cher entered the fragrance business in 1987 with Uninhibited, created in collaboration with Parfums Stern. The fragrance was conceived for the wearer rather than as a scent meant to make customers imitate Cher, which explains why it was not simply named Cher. In 1990, after Sanofi Beauty Products acquired Parfums Stern from Avon, Cher bought back Uninhibited’s distribution rights, objecting that the company had not fulfilled promises concerning its packaging, marketing, and distribution. Uninhibited was described in contemporary coverage as Cher’s signature scent. She returned to fragrance in 2019 with Eau de Couture, her second fragrance, after four years of development and repeated revisions. Developed by perfumer Clément Gavarry, it was presented as a unisex spicy oriental fragrance inspired by Cher, for people who liked it rather than for a specific gender.
