Chi

Chi is a professional hair-care and beauty brand produced by Houston-based Farouk Systems, Inc. Farouk Systems was founded in 1986 by hairdresser Farouk Shami after he developed ammonia-free professional hair-lightening products. Shami’s severe allergy to ammonia prompted the development of alternative professional hair-color products, which the company was formed to market. In the early 2000s, Chi evolved from Farouk Systems’ professional hair-care business into a broader styling-tools and hair-care brand, led by its ceramic straightening iron. Its public creative and technical identity centers on Cationic Hydration Interlink technology and the use of ceramic, ionic, and infrared technologies in styling tools.
