Chipie
Chipie was created on 16 December 1967 in Carcassonne, France, by 17-year-old Jean-Michel Signoles. It began with reworked second-hand clothing imported from the United States and opened its first manufacturing workshop in 1971. During the 1970s, the brand established its public identity around youth-oriented sportswear, particularly jeans and jackets, and extended that youth-market focus through the Chipie Junior licence in 1979. In the 1980s, it diversified into stationery, shoes, luggage, watches, leather goods and optical products while beginning international expansion. Groupe Zannier acquired the brand and its licensing contracts in France and abroad in July 1999, excluding nine Chipie stores. The group was renamed Kidiliz Group in 2016, with Chipie included in its portfolio. Following Kidiliz’s liquidation, Idkids acquired target assets including the Chipie brand through transactions offered and approved in November 2020; the operation was authorized in July 2021. Chipie’s fragrance history includes a 1995 fragrance identified under Chipie Cosmetics, followed by Quiddity releases in 1997 and 1998.
