Chloé
Founded in Paris in 1952 by Egyptian-born Parisian Gaby Aghion, Chloé began as an early luxury ready-to-wear house offering an alternative to haute couture’s rigid formality. Aghion’s approach favored elegant, modern, relaxed silhouettes in high-quality fabrics, and the house held its first fashion show at Café de Flore for Spring-Summer 1958, reflecting its connection to Left Bank artistic culture. Karl Lagerfeld became its dominant designer in the 1960s and exclusive designer in 1975, shaping a fluid, romantic language through fashion and artistic collaborations. After Stella McCartney’s tenure as creative director from 1997, Phoebe Philo succeeded her in 2001; during the 2000s, Chloé broadened into bags, small leather goods and shoes and introduced the See By Chloé line. Chloé is part of Richemont’s maisons after Aghion and Jacques Lenoir sold it to the group in 1985. Chemena Kamali was appointed creative director in October 2023, and her first runway collection, shown in February 2024, revisited the house’s 1970s essence and Lagerfeld influence. In fragrance, Chloé launched its first scent in 1975. Chloé Eau de Parfum, introduced in 2008, is the house’s signature fragrance, built around a modern interpretation of classic rose.
