Chopova Lowena

Founded in 2017 by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, Chopova Lowena developed from a collaboration formed while the designers were studying at Central Saint Martins; the label launched in 2018. Its identity brings Bulgarian and British craft references into dialogue with sportswear, drawing on folklore, traditional textiles, climbing, school-team imagery and punk-inflected styling. The founders’ design approach modernizes traditional textiles, crafts and techniques, with recycled and deadstock materials part of its craft and sustainability focus. The pleated skirt suspended from metal climbing carabiners became the label’s founding signature, and the first collection sold out at MatchesFashion.com. Chopova Lowena was a finalist for the 2020 LVMH Prize and held its first runway show at London Fashion Week in September 2022, presenting Bulgarian rose-festival references alongside lacrosse. In 2024, it won the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. The brand introduced its first fragrance collection, a trio of spicy scents made from Bulgarian flowers and herbs, in autumn 2025.
