Christian Kölbl

Christian Kölbl is a German fragrance label founded in 2023, with artist Christian Kölbl as its creator. Born in 1994 in Wörth an der Donau, Kölbl studied painting and graphics at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, spent an exchange semester at UMPRUM in Prague in 2018, and founded the CK-Offspace art space in Leipzig in 2019. His wider practice spans installation, painting, sculpture, and curatorial-artistic projects, with recurring attention to consumer culture, commodity aesthetics, and self-marketing. The label extends this practice into perfumery, connecting contemporary art with limited fragrance compositions inspired primarily by consumer culture and presenting scents as artworks in perfumeries and exhibitions. Its 2023 fragrance Neuwagen interprets the smell of a new car and was developed in close collaboration with senior perfumer Marc vom Ende. First presented on 8 September 2023 at Studio Michael Riedel in Frankfurt, it appeared in a namesake exhibition featuring a damaged new car as part of the installation.
