Christian Lacroix
Christian Lacroix founded his own couture house in 1987 with financial backing from Bernard Arnault and LVMH; its first collection drew on his Camargue origins. The house became associated with colorful, exuberant designs inspired by Hispanic and religious traditions, including pouf skirts, embroidery, rich fabrics, and mixed patterns. It expanded into ready-to-wear in 1988 and introduced the Bazar line in 1994. From 2002 to 2006, Lacroix also served as artistic director of Pucci while continuing his own brand. LVMH sold the house to the Falic brothers in January 2005, covering its couture and ready-to-wear activities. Court-supervised restructuring followed in 2009, closing those divisions and reducing the business largely to licensing; that year also brought Lacroix’s final couture runway show. Sacha Walckhoff subsequently became creative director and redirected the label toward menswear and lifestyle design, including home furnishings. In 2019, Dries Van Noten invited Lacroix to collaborate on his spring 2020 collection.
