Clarins
Founded in Paris in 1954 by Jacques Courtin-Clarins, Clarins began with a beauty institute and developed into a skincare and makeup brand grounded in plant science, continuous innovation, respect for nature, and dialogue with women. It added its first makeup collection in 1991, presenting makeup as an extension of its skincare philosophy. In 2008, the Courtin-Clarins family reacquired all shares, and Clarins became wholly family-owned and private. The group’s fragrance holdings changed in 2019, when L’Oréal agreed to acquire its fragrance division, including the Mugler brands and Azzaro fragrances; the acquisition was finalized on 31 March 2020. In 2020, Clarins defined its corporate raison d’être as “Making life more beautiful, passing on a more beautiful planet,” linking its identity to beauty, well-being, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. In March 2023, it introduced Clarins Precious in premium skincare. Clarins is especially associated with Eau Dynamisante, created in 1987 as its first Treatment Fragrance, combining essential oils, plant extracts, aromatherapy, and phytotherapy to perfume and care for the skin and mind.
