Clive Christian

Clive Christian’s story reaches back to 1872, when William Sparks Thomson established London’s Crown Perfumery and Queen Victoria granted permission to use her crown on its bottles. The broader Clive Christian company was founded in 1978 as a British luxury-goods business, while the perfume house dates from 1999. That year, Clive Christian acquired the Crown Perfumery Company and relaunched it as Clive Christian Perfume. Its inaugural Original Collection offered a modern reinterpretation of the predecessor’s perfume principles, emphasizing ingredient quality, complexity, and craftsmanship. The crown remains atop every Clive Christian perfume bottle, linking the contemporary house to its Victorian heritage. The fragrance legacy includes the 1872 pair, which commemorates the Crown Perfumery’s founding year and royal crown grant. In 2019, the perfume business was sold to Nichebox, and Clive Christian Perfume Limited now operates within the Nichebox UK group as a UK-based independent perfume house. In 2022, the brand marked 150 years since the Crown Perfumery’s founding with an anniversary collection.
