Coach
Founded in New York in 1941 by six artisans, Coach developed under Lillian and Miles Cahn into a leather-goods house. After acquiring the company in 1961, the Cahns brought in Bonnie Cashin as its first lead designer in 1962; her work helped shift the brand toward handbags and established turn-lock hardware as a signature design element. Sara Lee acquired Coach in 1985, and the company became publicly listed in 2000 before Sara Lee distributed its remaining ownership in 2001. Reed Krakoff became creative head in 1996, leading a period that added trend-oriented and more upscale designs alongside classic styles. Since 2013, Stuart Vevers has reinterpreted Coach’s heritage through American pop-culture references and an inclusive New York perspective. In 2017, Coach acquired Kate Spade & Company and became Tapestry, operating Coach as an independent brand within a multi-brand house. In fragrance, Signature and Poppy were identified as established top-selling scents in 2015, while the brand’s partnership with Interparfums was extended through June 2031 in March 2025.
