Companhia da Terra

Companhia da Terra was founded in Brazil in 1976 by designer and perfumer Ricardo Penafiel Malta. Its concept emerged after Malta encountered natural-cosmetics work in London in 1975 and chose to create a distinctly Brazilian fragrance rather than reproduce a foreign model. The brand began with artisanal production and moved to industrial production in 1981, becoming known across Brazil through partnerships. Its stated creative identity centers on natural perfumery and Brazilian aromatic materials, including pure oils without artificial synthetic additions. The founding family was still directing the company in 2015, while Malta had resumed directing the perfumery around 2013. Águas de Verão, the first fragrance launched in 1976, is the brand’s best-selling perfume.
