Comptoir
Founded in 1974 by a travel- and fragrance-loving couple, Comptoir Sud Pacifique drew on their journeys for its original Eaux de Voyage fragrances. The founders developed scents from flowers, resins, fruits and other materials encountered abroad, particularly those associated with the South Pacific. The brand established a niche, artisanal and creative positioning, with turquoise branding and metallic-looking silver bottles. In 2002, the founders ceded the company to investors from the luxury-perfumery sector, who shifted it toward multibrand distribution and reduced the fragrance portfolio from 54 to 17 creations. Valérie Pianelli-Guichard acquired the brand around 2010–2011, repositioning it as a niche brand, restoring elements of its original identity such as Comptoir blue, and investing in new fragrances. A 2011 relaunch reconnected the brand with its travel heritage through five fragrances, beginning with Souffle des Indes, created with perfumer Henri Bergia. Comptoir Sud Pacifique is especially associated with vanilla-led gourmand perfumery, while Rhum & Tabac is identified as a major success and current best-seller.
