Contraband

Contraband is an Indian fragrance brand created by entrepreneur and artist Ananya Birla. Operating under Birla Cosmetics, established on July 26, 2023, the brand launched its fragrance line in early 2025, marking Birla’s entry into beauty and personal care. Its identity centers on nonconformity, individual expression, and fragrance as a personal statement, with scents intended to challenge predictable choices. Birla is the brand’s principal creative figure and was closely involved in developing its three initial fragrances, making 10 to 11 versions of each during development. Contraband also works with master perfumers to create its fragrances.
