Coquette

Coquette is a Japanese leather-bag and leather-accessories brand founded by Kyoko Hayashi in June 2004. Born in Kanazawa, Hayashi worked in makeup-product development at Shiseido before launching the brand, later studying bagmaking independently and design at ESMOD Japon. Her work spans design, material selection, processing proposals, and sales, while specialist craftspeople handle production. Coquette makes all of its bags in Japan and places Japanese craft techniques at the center of its work. The brand creates bags intended for long-term use rather than disposable consumption, linking them with personal memories in a way compared to wearing perfume. That connection became literal on November 4, 2015, when Coquette released Coquette Eau de Parfum under Hayashi’s creative direction, drawing on her cosmetics-development experience. Coquette marked its 20th anniversary in 2024.
