Corday

Founded in Paris in 1924, Corday had principal shareholders in New York trader Charles Lionel Markus and the Franco-British couple Bert and Blanche Stevens-Arvoy. Blanche, who had founded Jovoy the previous year, shaped Corday’s public identity through elaborate bottles and unusually conceived presentations; the brand’s fragrances appeared at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. Its first fragrance, Toujours Moi, was released in 1924 as a floral perfume. Identified as one of Corday’s most popular perfumes, Toujours Moi also inspired British composer Harry Revel’s 1948 synesthetic suite Perfume Set to Music: The “Sound” of Scents. Max Factor acquired Corday’s Paris and New York companies and their subsidiaries on 1 July 1961. Subsequent releases included Possession in 1964 and Promesse in 1966, the year listed in reference cataloguing as the brand’s newest fragrance. A U.S. trademark registration dated 2020 lists Luvanis S.A. as Corday’s current owner.
