Corinne Cobson
Corinne Cobson was a French fashion designer who began working in her family’s fashion business at 16, before launching her own ready-to-wear label in 1987 and formally creating the Corinne Cobson brand in 1988. Paris-based and associated with an independent fashion practice, the label developed a contemporary, punk-chic vocabulary shaped by rock influences, masculine and feminine contrasts, and materials ranging from leather and jersey to linen and lightweight fleece. Cobson’s creative work extended beyond the runway: in 1984, she designed Pascale Ogier’s costumes for Éric Rohmer’s film Les Nuits de la pleine lune. In the early 1990s, her presentations drew attention for exposed midriffs and breasts, lowered trouser waists, and bandeau-like knitwear. The brand later moved into cosmetics through L’Oréal, collaborations associated with Cacharel, lingerie, and furniture under the Corinne Cobson Home label. Cobson died in Paris in April 2019 at 62, after her work had gained recognition during the 1980s and 1990s.
