Coronel Tapiocca
Coronel Tapiocca began in 1989 as a travel- and adventure-oriented retail concept, opening its first specialized store on Calle Mariano Cubí in Barcelona. Ricardo Beleta developed the original concept, and Roberto Alcalde later joined him as co-founder. The brand’s early identity centered on a single destination for clothing and accessories for travel, leisure, adventure, and outdoor activities. Gala Capital took control in 1996, and by the late 2000s the company had expanded from Spain into Portugal and Italy. By 2006, Coronel Tapiocca had moved toward a more fashion-oriented image, while also setting out to return to its travel-and-adventure origins. In September 2010, falling sales led the company to seek creditor protection after unsuccessful negotiations with its banks. A later licensed-accessories relaunch retained its safari-and-adventure spirit while adapting it for urban use, connecting travel-oriented design with city life.
