Costa Brazil

Costa Brazil was developed by Francisco Costa after he left Calvin Klein in 2016 and explored the Amazon rainforest, where local rituals, native ingredients, and conservation concerns shaped the concept. The beauty and wellness brand launched in December 2018 around Brazilian Amazon ingredients such as breu, kaya, and cacay, with an identity rooted in Brazilian heritage, Amazon biodiversity, ritual, and responsibly sourced plant-based products; Conservation International has been involved in its sustainability work. Amyris acquired Costa Brazil, later announced its shuttering during the company’s 2023 bankruptcy period, and Costa bought the brand back through that process in late 2023. It officially relaunched in February 2024 under his control. In fragrance, Aroma—launched in 2022 as Costa Brazil’s debut scent—was created with perfumer Frank Voelkl around breu, a fragrant Amazonian resin that also formed the backbone of the brand’s early products.
