Fragrance house
couturier
Founded in 1972 by Jean and Jacqueline Couturier, Jean Couturier Paris reflects the founders’ distinct perfumery backgrounds: Jean had worked with Yves Saint Laurent and was involved in YSL Parfums, while Jacqueline was a Grasse-trained perfumer from a family of perfumers. The house’s first major fragrance, Coriandre, was created by Jacqueline and launched in 1973. Classified as a floral chypre, it is described as a precursor of the floral-chypre family and serves as the brand’s principal historical reference point. In its ownership history, Jean Couturier International was acquired by Diana de Silva Cosmétiques, while VAG & Distribution later became the owner of Jean Couturier Paris and currently presents the house in its brand portfolio. Coriandre remains the clearest expression of the brand’s fragrance legacy, identified as its first point of recognition and described as a cult 1970s chypre.
