Cowshed

Cowshed was founded in 1998 at Babington House in Somerset, England, where an old cowshed was converted into the first spa. Soho House founder Nick Jones created the original products for that spa, and the brand took its name from the building. Perfumer Richard Howard developed the early formulations using ingredients from Babington House’s Victorian walled garden. As guests wanted to use them beyond the spa, Cowshed evolved into a range of aromatherapy-based products for home use. Its identity combines Somerset origins, botanical ingredients, aromatherapy, and spa rituals. The original fragrance system organizes scents around moods, including Relax, with lavender and eucalyptus, and Active, with lemongrass, ginger, and rosemary; Relax Bath & Shower Gel is described as the brand’s most repurchased scent. Cowshed marked its 25th anniversary in 2023 with a program centered on Babington House, and a recent refresh retained its Somerset heritage while updating the visual identity, product naming, descriptions, and tone of voice. In January 2026, Soho House & Co completed a take-private transaction involving an investor group that included MCR Hotels and existing shareholders who rolled over their interests.
