Fragrance house
Criminal Elements
Criminal Elements is an Australian small-batch artisan perfume house founded by perfumer Corey Newcombe after he completed a chemistry degree in 2011 while living in Beulah, Victoria. Its name began as a joke about townspeople suspecting that Newcombe was cooking meth in his bus. The brand later relocated with him to Adelaide, where its first fragrance collection was released in 2015. In early 2014, Aelfrik Spektor met Newcombe in Beulah and worked with him to establish the original base-elements range. Spektor helped shape early versions of Sepal, Blackwater Thistle, Hollow, and Tobacco Jam before the two parted ways in 2016, after which Newcombe continued the business in Adelaide. Combining art and chemistry, Criminal Elements frames fragrance as a form of self-expression built around contrasts such as light and shadow, warmth and edge. In 2020, Fall, Newcombe’s first gourmand oriental fragrance, was selected as a finalist in the Artisan Category of the Art and Olfaction Awards.
