Fragrance house
D.R. Harris & co
D.R. Harris & co began shortly before 1790 as Harris’s Apothecary at No. 11 St. James’s Street in London. Henry Harris was a surgeon, while Daniel Rotely was an early pharmaceutical chemist. During its first fifty years, the family business sold Lavender Water, Classic Cologne, and English Flower perfumes, combining pharmacy and perfumery from its London base. Over more than two centuries, it has remained a family business and continues to operate from its traditional chemists’ shop at 29 St. James’s Street. It evolved into a chemist, perfumer, and traditional-grooming house offering colognes, aftershaves, shaving products, and skincare while retaining its pharmacy identity. D.R. Harris received a Royal Warrant as chemists to Queen Elizabeth II in 1938, was appointed Chemists to the Prince of Wales in 2002, and received a further warrant for Queen Elizabeth II in 2012. Its fragrance identity is rooted in traditional English perfumery, with restrained, often citrus-led colognes. Arlington Cologne, part of its best-selling collection, is a light citrus-and-fern fragrance suitable for daytime and all occasions.
