Danner & Flemming

Danner & Flemming grew out of a research project exploring the cultivation and processing of fragrant iris in Bavaria, begun after chemistry professor Werner Kunz encountered iris’s perfumery value while living in France. The work developed from agricultural and processing research into a path spanning iris plantlets, cultivation, extracted raw materials, and finished perfumes. Based in Regensburg, Germany, the brand cultivates and processes iris in southern Bavaria, creates its perfumes in Paris, and finishes them with materials from a specialist atelier near Lake Geneva. BOAS GmbH operates the brand website. Iris forms the centre of Danner & Flemming’s creative identity: different varieties and extracts shape the character of its perfumes. Biologist Marcel Flemming is involved in cultivation and perfume development, while farmer Christian Danner developed the Bavarian cultivation work with the team. Antoine Lie composed the initial iris fragrances. The first releases appeared in 2025 as a limited millésime series of three compositions. Iris Trousseau is the most iris-centric of the initial trio, alongside early expression Iris Altesse.
