Dermacol
Dermacol was established in 1966 at Prague’s Barrandov Film Studios through a collaboration between film-makeup specialists and dermatologists from Prague’s Medical Cosmetics Institute, with beautician Olga Knoblochová involved from the beginning. Its original identity centered on Make-up Cover, a high-coverage foundation developed to cover skin imperfections and described as one of the first foundations of its kind in the world. In 1969, Hollywood film studios acquired a license to use the product, marking Dermacol’s first major international film-industry milestone. The brand later broadened into skincare creams and decorative cosmetics, including compact and loose eyeshadows by 1972. After separating from Barrandov, Dermacol cosmetics continued to be produced there for another eleven years. In 2002, the brand transferred to Věra and Vladimír Komár and was presented as a Czech family business. Its public identity remains anchored in Czech cosmetics and its film-makeup origins, with skincare and decorative cosmetics as later extensions.
