Detaille

Detaille was founded in Paris in 1905 by Marie-Aline Detaille, known as the Countess of Presle. Its origins lay in the Baume Automobile, a protective moisturizing treatment developed by chemist Marcellin Berthelot for the countess, an early automobile driver concerned about wind and dust on her skin. The house established its enduring boutique at 10 rue Saint-Lazare, which it still identifies as its historic home. After the countess’s death, her daughter Suzanne broadened the business during the 1920s and 1930s from beauty treatments into creams, powders, and fragrances; Aéroplane followed in 1927 as a tribute to aviator Charles Lindbergh. After the brand left the founding family, Louis Pallier and an associate acquired it in 1990 and subsequently guided its revival, pairing its historical identity with newer eaux de parfum and an extended beauty offering. Detaille’s olfactory identity combines French haute perfumery, modern classicism, and plant-derived materials. Its original fragrance, Eau de Toilette 1905, is reinterpreted by the maison, while Baume Automobile remains a defining heritage product offered today.
