Devota & Lomba

Founded in Vitoria in 1986 by tailor Modesto Lomba and architect Luis Devota, Devota & Lomba entered Madrid’s fashion circuit in 1988 with a presentation at Pasarela Cibeles. The house received the Cristóbal Balenciaga National Award for Best Novel Designers in 1989 and the Pasarela Madrid award for best women’s collection in 1991. After Luis Devota’s death in 1993, Modesto Lomba continued the firm, extending its work into bridalwear, jewellery, home products, architecture and interior design. Its creative identity is associated with architecture applied to fashion, pure lines, innovative pattern-making, precise cutting and sophisticated minimalism. The firm entered voluntary insolvency proceedings in 2013, and Kangaroos acquired its productive unit in January 2014; in September 2017, Lomba repurchased control of the brand’s use for textile, jewellery and optical categories, while Kangaroos retained handbags, leather goods and accessories. Perfume remains one of the brand’s creative categories, with Hipnótica documented as a fragrance whose white-flower-centered composition inspired a 2017 fashion collection.
