Diane Von Frustenber
Diane von Furstenberg founded her eponymous fashion brand in 1972. In 1974, she created the wrap dress; by 1976, more than one million had been sold, and the garment had become an icon. Its practical jersey construction and adaptable silhouette appealed to emerging female professionals, while the dress became associated with women’s independence and the women’s-rights movement. After a hiatus from fashion, von Furstenberg relaunched the dress and her company in 1997, reestablishing the business as a broader luxury lifestyle brand. In 2010, she and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation founded the DVF Awards to recognize and support women working on women’s causes. In August 2024, the brand announced that its operations would return in-house by the end of the year, with Glamel Trading Limited continuing distribution in China. In February 2025, Nathan Jenden returned to DVF and shaped its collection direction around the brand’s early-2000s identity while adding contemporary elements.
