Diane von Furstenberg
Founded by Diane von Furstenberg in New York in 1972, DVF built its identity around clothing designed to empower women, using vivid color, expressive prints, jersey, fluid silk, and feminine yet functional silhouettes. Its defining product arrived in 1974, when von Furstenberg created the jersey wrap dress; more than one million were sold by 1976, when the dress had become an icon. After a hiatus from fashion, von Furstenberg relaunched the wrap dress in 1997, reestablishing the company as a broader lifestyle brand. In 2010, she and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation established the DVF Awards to honor and support women demonstrating courage, leadership, and commitment to their causes. The brand’s public legacy was further documented by the Woman Before Fashion exhibition in 2023 and the 2024 documentary Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
