Disney
Disney began on October 16, 1923, when Walt Disney signed a contract with distributor Margaret Winkler to produce and distribute the Alice Comedies; Walt and Roy Disney were its founding partners. Originally called Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the business later became the Walt Disney Studio, was incorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929, and adopted the name The Walt Disney Company in 1986. After losing control of the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit rights, Walt Disney made ownership of the company’s creative work a central business principle, preceding the creation of Mickey Mouse with animator Ub Iwerks. Mickey became a major creative and commercial asset after Steamboat Willie premiered with synchronized sound in 1928, while Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs established Disney’s feature-animation direction in 1937. The company expanded into television and theme parks, including the Disneyland anthology series and Disneyland, which opened in 1955. Later acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, and Lucasfilm broadened its creative portfolio, and Disney+ brought Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic programming together on a single platform in 2019. Its fragrance activity has largely taken the form of character and franchise collaborations, beginning with Lady Minnie and Dandy Mickey in 1981 and continuing with a six-fragrance Disney Princess collection launched with Bath & Body Works in 2025.
