Dora The Explorer

Dora the Explorer launched on Nickelodeon on August 14, 2000, created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes, and Eric Weiner. Developed as an interactive, story-driven preschool program, its concept changed from a boy to a girl before Nickelodeon shaped Dora as a Latina character. The series combines animated adventure, direct audience participation, and learning techniques, following a seven-year-old Latina heroine through a tropical setting. Problem solving, asking for help, persistence, and overcoming obstacles are built into Dora’s character and storytelling, while cultural consultants supported the responsible portrayal of Latina culture. In 2019, the property reached theaters with the live-action adaptation Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Following ViacomCBS’s transition to Paramount Global in February 2022, Skydance Media and Paramount Global completed a merger on August 7, 2025, creating Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, whose portfolio includes Nickelodeon. The current listing presents DORA as a CG-animated Nickelodeon preschool series featuring bilingual explorer Dora, Boots, Map, and Swiper.
