Drakkar

Drakkar is a men’s fragrance line originating within the French Guy Laroche label, established by Guy Laroche in 1956, which presented its first ready-to-wear collection in 1961. The line’s first men’s fragrance, Drakkar, was released in 1972. Drakkar Noir followed in 1982, launched by Guy Laroche with Pierre Wargnye as perfumer and IFF as its fragrance house. Identified as an aromatic fougère, Drakkar Noir places the line within the classic men’s fougère tradition. It won the Fragrance Foundation’s 1985 Fragrance of the Year – Men’s Prestige award and the Men’s Media Campaign of the Year award, then entered the organization’s Men’s Fragrance Hall of Fame in 1996. The Guy Laroche brand was acquired by YGM in 2004, while L’Oréal’s 2015 registration document listed Parfums Guy Laroche as a wholly owned French company.
