Dreamworks

Founded in 1994 by Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg, and David Geffen, DreamWorks began as a diversified entertainment company. Its animation division separated in 2004 and became a public company through an initial public offering. DreamWorks Animation built its public identity around animated feature films, television series, and family storytelling for audiences across generations, with franchises such as Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon. In 2001, Shrek became the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. NBCUniversal completed its acquisition of DreamWorks Animation on August 22, 2016, bringing the studio into Universal Filmed Entertainment Group and NBCUniversal, a Comcast division. Since then, DreamWorks has continued developing animation and expanding its presence across NBCUniversal’s film, television, theme-park, and consumer-products portfolio.
