Ducati
Ducati was founded in Bologna on 4 July 1926 by Adriano, Bruno, and Marcello Cavalieri Ducati as Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati, initially producing radio capacitors. Engineer Fabio Taglioni joined Ducati in 1954 and shaped its technical identity through the Marianna, desmodromic valve technology, and later two-cylinder engine development; Ducati introduced desmodromic valve control in production motorcycles in 1968. Racing milestones include the 23 April 1972 Imola 200 victory with a desmodromic two-cylinder 750 GT and the 2007 MotoGP manufacturers’ and riders’ championships. After becoming the premium-segment brand of the Cagiva group in 1985, Ducati was sold by Investindustrial to Volkswagen Group in 2012, with Audi completing the acquisition on 19 July that year. Its public identity combines performance, racing, engineering innovation, Italian design, and emotional form. Massimo Tamburini shaped Ducati’s sporty design language through the 916, while the Monster and 916 are identified as defining 1990s icons. As of March 2026, Ducati remains part of Audi Group’s Brand Group Progressive and is marking its centenary.
