Dzintars
Dzintars traces part of its history to the Brieger family business, which by 1876 had expanded from soaps and candles into perfumery. From the 1960s onward, its products became associated in Latvia with Western style and culture for several generations. Reconstituted as a joint-stock company in 1991, Dzintars was declared insolvent and went bankrupt in 2019. On September 14, 2020, Estonian industrial group Skinest Group contracted through its affiliate Ritrem to purchase the assets of bankrupt Dzintars; H.A. Brieger Ltd. is identified as the brand’s owner since 2020. Following the change of hands, the company was renamed H.A. Brieger in January 2021, while the Dzintars name was retained for cosmetic products. The post-acquisition structure separated the identities, with Brieger intended for higher-segment products and Dzintars retained for mass-market products. A documented fragrance revival came in 2021, when Rīgas ceriņi returned as Lilac of Riga using its historical formula, followed by a modernized composition in 2022.
