Eau d'Italie

Eau d’Italie originated at Hotel Le Sirenuse in Positano on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, where Marina Sersale and Sebastián Alvarez Murena conceived a fragrance project in spring 2002 while planning the hotel’s 50th-anniversary celebration. The resulting Eau d’Italie launched in 2004 as Le Sirenuse’s signature scent and gave its name to a broader fragrance and body-care brand inspired by Italy. Shaped by Sersale’s memories of Positano—sun-warmed terracotta, wild herbs, lemon flowers, sea air, and church incense—the original fragrance was developed with French perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. The collection grew from the hotel’s signature scent and guest-room body products into releases presenting Italian places, moods, memories, countryside, and history through fragrance. The brand remains publicly tied to the Sersale family’s Le Sirenuse heritage. In 2024, its twentieth anniversary was marked by Acqua di Positano, a fragrance dedicated to the town itself. The original Eau d’Italie is the clearest defining fragrance example, establishing the name and concept of the subsequent brand.
