Fragrance house
ÉDIT(h)
ÉDIT(h) was created by Kentaro Kuzuwa, the sixth generation of Moriyama, whose Nikko Jirushi business was established in Tokyo in 1905. Moriyama Inc. announced the fragrance brand at Maison & Objet Paris in 2018. Its origins lie in Moriyama’s production of scented red-ink stamp pads, a craft that ÉDIT(h) reinterprets through fragrance, materials, and associated expertise. Before developing the brand, Kuzuwa worked as a music promoter and A&R director; he applies music-direction methods to guiding perfumers and shaping the fragrances. ÉDIT(h)’s creative identity avoids straightforward imitation of French perfumery, favoring atmosphere and feeling over a conventional top-heart-base structure. Its Japanese heritage is expressed as a contemporary reinterpretation of tradition through fragrance and packaging, without presenting itself simply as a conventional “Japanese-style” brand. In 2022, the brand created a Made in France version for the European market because Japanese regulatory and certification requirements made European registration difficult.
