Egon Furstenberg
Egon von Furstenberg was born in Lausanne in 1946, grew up in Venice, moved to New York in 1967, and studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology after working in banking. After serving as a Macy’s buyer in 1972, he launched women’s oversize designs, followed by men’s pullovers and shirts for Bloomingdale’s. The Egon von Furstenberg Ltd. company was established in the United States in 1977, and the label entered haute couture in 1991 with collections presented at events including Rome’s Woman under the Stars. Egon’s creative work also encompassed accessories, home-related licensing, television, cinema, and books on style and interiors. He died in Rome on June 11, 2004. His children, Alex and Tatiana, chose to continue the label, whose contemporary identity is linked to the Cicirelli family’s Epoque & Co. and Italian home and design work.
