Ellen Tracy
Ellen Tracy was founded by Herb Gallen in 1949 as a blouse manufacturer. Linda Allard joined as a design assistant in 1962, became design director in 1964, and moved the brand into sportswear. In 1975, Ellen Tracy moved into contemporary departments as its customer base entered the workforce, reinforcing its focus on working women. In 1984, Allard’s name was added to the label, whose identity was associated with distinctive fabrics, color stories, and a total wardrobe for working women. The brand launched Company, a younger-market line centered on casual weekend clothing, in 1991. By 2001, it had expanded into fragrance among other additional categories. Liz Claiborne acquired Ellen Tracy in 2002. On July 30, 2021, Ellen Tracy Holdings, LLC acquired the brand’s intellectual property, goodwill, and other intangible assets from Brand Matter, a Sequential Brands Group subsidiary.
