Emanuel Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro founded his eponymous couture house in Paris in 1965 after training with Cristóbal Balenciaga. The house moved to Avenue Montaigne in 1967, while Ungaro’s design language combined bright colors, bold prints, sensual draping, and close attention to silhouette and detail. The brand reached a peak in the 1980s and 1990s, associated with draped silk dresses and exuberant fashion design. In 1996, Ungaro sold the controlling stake in his house to Salvatore Ferragamo and continued as couturier until 2004. Ferragamo sold the label in 2005 to a fund associated with American technology entrepreneur Asim Abdullah, after which Ungaro fully retired from fashion. As of 2025, the brand remained owned by Abdullah and operated as a French brand based in France without a couture collection. Its fragrance history includes Diva, launched in 1983 as Ungaro’s first fragrance and identified as the scent most associated with the brand internationally. In October 2021, Interparfums entered a 10-year exclusive global license for Emanuel Ungaro fragrances and related products.
